Romeo Wrongway sat at the steering wheel, gripping it so tightly his knuckles were turning white. He'd only learnt to drive a couple of weeks ago, but Romeo couldn't wait any longer. He didn't want to hang around in the desert, with his friends feeling sorry for him. It just didn't feel like home.

Perhaps nowhere would ever feel like home again. Romeo hadn't thought of that before, hadn't even considered it was possible. But maybe there really was no place for him.

On the passenger seat, a pad of paper and a pen waited on top of a map. A message he'd been trying to write for an hour, crossed out several times, started over and over and over. This note was going to be a farewell to Oscar and Sierra, and if he couldn't write it...well. They'd never understand his reasons for driving away.

With a sigh, Romeo let go of the wheel, and turned the key in the ignition. The engine hummed to life, and Romeo managed a small smile. Cars had always been an interest of Romeo's, and since he'd fixed it up himself, hearing the engine always brought a smile to his face.

Carefully, Romeo followed the roads out of Mirage, the town his grandmother had come to two generations ago. Romeo glanced at the map as he pulled out onto the main road. He was going back to his routes.

Romeo Wrongway was going to Rubix – the town where the legacy began.
