The waves rolled in, falling apart into white foam on the rocks. Night had fallen a few hours ago, and Kaylynn couldn't get over the beauty of the bay. Romeo had explained that the beach, and the promenade, had fallen into disrepair long before he was born. But Kaylynn couldn't understand why no one wanted to come here anymore.
Kaylynn was so lost in the sea and the stars, she didn't notice Romeo wandering up behind her. He sat next to her on the wall, and smiled, “Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” Kaylynn murmured, “I was just...I needed to get out for a bit. I'm glad I did...Romeo, this place has shown me so much about you,”
Romeo shrugged, “It's possibly my favourite place. The peacefulness...it's perfect. You very rarely get to experience it. Too busy worrying, I guess. Everyone's got something to think about,”
“What worries you?” Kaylynn asked, suddenly.
“I worry that I'll never remember who I am,” Romeo said, hesitating, “I mean, I know all this stuff about who I was, my family, and all that. But it's like ancient history compared to life now. I don't remember Sierra growing up, or...”
Kaylynn nodded, “If there was anything I could do about your memory, I would do it,”
“I know, but I think this it, Kay. I've got to learn to live without it,” Romeo hesitated, before smiling at Kaylynn, “So what worries you?”
Kaylynn fidgeted for a moment, embarrassed. Romeo offered her a warm smile, which Kaylynn tried to return, but still felt uncomfortable. Romeo nodded, and place a hand on hers, “Go on, Kay,”
“I'm scared...” Kaylynn swallowed, “Scared of ending up alone. More than anything...more than spiders, house fires, drowning...anything. When you're alone, you have nothing to distract you from yourself,”
Romeo watched her, “You won't have to be alone, Kay. No one goes through life alone, anyway. There will always be someone there,”
