Prompt: Hanging a Painting

Story: Project Sim State

Summary: Ty tries his hand at art.

Poking the canvas again with his paintbrush, Ty bit his lip. The painting looked nothing like the image Ty had in mind, and it began to dribble down the canvas. With a sigh, Ty put the paintbrush down on the table, and picked up a tissue, blotting the mess on canvas.

Ty was so absorbed in his painting, he didn't notice Jared wandering into the kitchen. Art supplies filled the counters, screwed up balls of paper over the floor, splatters of paint decorated Ty's tattered jeans. Jared smiled to himself.

“Thinking of joining the art class?” Jared grinned, “Me and Erik could show you the ropes!”

Ty scowled, “I'm no good at this painting stuff,”

With a sigh, Ty pushed his painting away. Jared shook his head, and picked up the paper, holding it up to examine it. A blobby portrait of the five of them looked back at him – Ty, Erik, Jimmy, Sam and Jared as well.

Sure, it wasn't perfect. But it was heartfelt. Jared grinned, and wandered over to the wall, pulling a frame down. Slipping Ty's painting inside, he presented it to Ty.

“You do the honours of hanging it, Ty,” Jared said, cheerfully. Shooting a smile at his best friend, Ty hung the painting on the kitchen wall, then took a step back to admire his work.

“What do you think?” Ty questioned, shoving his hands in pockets.

“Looks good to me,” Jared answered.
