Prosperity: Winter Rotation
Feb. 11th, 2014 03:00 pmHere's another round of my prosperity - this time, with added drama! Seriously. I wanted to keep the plot stuff far, far away, and the game continues to try its best to throw plot bunnies my way.
It's still not plotty. But the Lagoon rotation is a lot more like a soap opera this season.
Enjoy!

We start off with the Coopers, because they come alphabetically first, so therefore, they are my first family.
We have Lily Lagoon and her son, Henry (the brunette), living with Lily's lover, Richard Cooper and his two children, Emily and Dylan.
Sims who move out, by the way, are tacked onto the end of the rotation, regardless of where they come in the alphabet. Just in case you wanted to know!

Love is still very much on the cards for Richard and his "girlfriend" (he wouldn't agree with that label). Even though he dabbled a bit with other women in the autumn, Richard might finally be turning into a one-woman kinda guy.
Which is wonderful!

Richard's kids, however, are not so taken by their Dad's woman. I have no idea why - they both have high(ish) relationships with her, but they talk about her all the time.
Guys, you're supposed to talk about people behind their backs, not in front of them.

That night was Emily's birthday - yay, progress!
All of the sims who stepped out of CAS are generation 1. Even the elders, who are two generations older than the kids. So in order to start moving towards the end goal of the prosperity - the death of generation five - I need babies!

Emily rolled Family. And, by the way, she's gorgeous.
I'd say she looked like her mother, but I never actually made the Cooper mother.

"Mum, Richard, do you have to flirt in my bedroom?"

"You're making me find love, aren't you?"
Yes. I was reading
peasant007's New Simville Prosperity, which is definitely one of my favourites, and she used this crystal ball to save time. I thought it would be fun to see who you'd be most compatible with.
Though, to be honest, if Emily doesn't hit it off with anyone, she can choose for herself when she's older.

The crystal ball recommended Randy London.
I've never played him before, so this could be interesting.

Or not. Emily and Randy dislike each other.
I blame Randy's belief that noogies are a form of flirting.

Second attempt - a PLAYABLE! This excites me, I rarely breed the bin sims.
This is Gavin Newson.

It's slow moving and early days, but I've got a good feeling about this.
I can't wait to see what the kids would look like! Genetic experiments time!

"Dad! Dad, look! Dad! You're not looking!"

Well, well, well. Look who Emily brought home from school.
Yes I am trying to hide a massive grin - I love these two!

I love it when a plan comes together.
I desperately want to see what kind of kids these two have - and Emily doesn't grow up for ages yet.

After that, it was time for the boys to share a birthday.
I had no idea they had the same birthday, if I'm honest. A happy coincidence.

Dylan Cooper rolled Knowledge, which really suits him.
I picture him as a well-behaved, intelligent boy. Kids his age would call him a nerd, I guess.

Henry Lagoon rolled Romance, which suits him perfectly, too.
I picture Henry as much cooler and popular than Dylan, but not a jerk.
The boys couldn't be much more different!

They may be different, but they get along really, really well.
If they'd rolled up as gay instead of straight, I would've put them together. Ah well. Better luck next time.

Ladies and gentlemen, there might be a new Cooper/Lagoon family member soon...
That's it for the Coopers!

The Lagoons are having drama this season!
It's really weird, I always dread getting to this family in the rotation, because I never expect much to happen - with four elders, what COULD happen? - but they're always much more fun than expected.
Anyway, we have Jessie (sitting) and her husband, Terry (in green), the parents of Lily (who lives with Richard), Jessie's sister Rita, and her husband, William. There's also Rita and William's daughter, Lola, and her husband-to-be, Jace.
Ignore the baby in the picture, I forgot to take a starting picture, and had to make do with one from the middle of the season.

We rejoin the Lagoons to find Lola curled up with her partner. Is there a better way to start a winter morning?
I've decided Lola and Jace can wait until Spring to tie the knot, so they can have a massive outdoor wedding with all of the family. The yard is big enough for it, afterall.

Lola's bump will arrive before then, but it's not a big deal, really. If Lola was a family sim, I probably would've pushed for a shotgun wedding, but she's pleasure - I'm sure having a baby out of wedlock does not bother her in the slightest.
I am very excited to meet the bump, as well - the first member of generation two!

To pass the time waiting for the bump, I send the two elders without jobs to go and do some gardening. I'd actually forgotten I'd put in a little patch of gardening until I wondered what the hell that patch of brown and green was on the left of my screen.

Lola gets away without doing any work because she's pregnant.
So she gets to play and dance and eat all day. Can you tell I play these guys on freewill mostly?

You guys may remember in the last rotation I struggled getting the gardener to work.
Well, he decided to rake the leaves in winter, so he's not all bad. He started earning his wages now.

And here you can witness the difference between the two couples.
Rita and William are very passionate and very much still in love despite being together for the best part of forever, whilst Jessie and Terry are much more reserved. I'm not saying either one is better, but it does sort of tie in with what happens later on...

But first! This!
Baby time!

It's a girl!
This is Rhode. I used Behind the Name's random generator. I didn't even know Rhode was a girl's name. So there you go.

"Oh god, I'm dressed the same as someone else at this birthday party!"
And because not much happened for 24 hours, it's Rhode's birthday!
Yes, that is Lola in the bandit stripes. She's a mime, apparently.

She's gorgeous! Looks almost entirely like her father, but still!
I adore her.

With tons of people on the lot to take care of her, Rhode is never short of attention. Except maybe from her father - the picture you've seen is the only time I can recall him interacting with her, and even then, I told him to do that.
Maybe he just get his chance, with all of these other people around.

"So, Jace, I've noticed you haven't been helping out with your daughter much. Why is that?"
"I've had a lot of stuff on my mind,"
Jessie hesitated, "Like what?"
"Like the fact we have three bolts."

"Jace...I'm married..."
"And when was the last time he showed you any affection?"
"True," Jessie bit her lip, "There is nothing wrong with wanting to be loved..."

Yep. I hadn't noticed those three bolts, but ACR did.
To be honest, I could have stepped in at any point and stopped them. But I've been letting the family run on freewill up until this point, so I decided just to roll with it.
Giving them freewill was my mistake.

It took minutes for the family to fall apart after that.
I've never seen anyone react to an ACR encounter as quick as Terry did. Maybe because he's a family sim?

"How could you?!"

"Terry, please-"
"No, Jessie," Terry shook his head, "Don't pretend to have remorse over this,"
"Let me explain!"
"No. Nothing you could say will alter how I feel,"

"Love is about second chances, Terry,"
Terry studied her for a moment, "Love is also about trust, loyalty and faith. You've made your choice,"
"But, Terry-"

"Just go, Jessie."
Terry stood there, patiently, while Jessie racked her brains for something - anything - to say. Anything that could change the way he felt. She had no regrets, that much was certain, but this man had stood by her for decades. There had to be some way of repairing the hurt, so they could at least be friends.
She gave up. Terry had no patience for her now, that softness in his eyes had gone. Jessie had lost him.

"Don't ever grow up, Rhode. It's hard and messy."
And full of potential plots. Jeez. I refuse to stage a single scene!

"What the hell is going on in here?"
Because Lola's a pleasure sim, her jealousy according to ACR is slightly skewed in comparison to Terry. So I switched maxis jealousy back on - I couldn't have Jace making out with Lola's aunt everywhere while she gave no reaction at all.
So this is the only time I interfered.

"Out. Now."
"Lola! It's a snowy night! Where would I go!"
"I don't care. You can't expect me to put you up after you've messed around with my aunt!"
"What if she wants me to stay?"

"Then I will go! I cannot stay here, Jace!"
"We can sort something out!"
"Jace, it's over. I can't stay in my family home. You've ruined EVERYTHING. You've screwed up my family."

The next morning, Lola took her parents and her daughter, and walked out, leaving Jace's engagement ring on the bedside counter. They didn't have much money behind them, but that wasn't the point...they just couldn't stay there anymore.

* * * *
I told you there was drama. I still refuse to let this turn entirely plotty! I don't want to be staging things and creating story arcs and character development and dragging this challenge out until 2020.
But a little bit here and there is fine, I guess.
See you next time!
