More Tower Play-Testing
Apr. 23rd, 2014 10:47 amBank Holiday + No Job or College Work = More Sims :P
So I spent the time fiddling around with my tower ideas, and how to fit towers onto lots and whether or not it was possible to build a ten-storey tower in the sims...

It IS possible! And completely impractical!
I had to use the "setHighestAllowedLevel [level]" cheat, in order to get the game to let me build this high. And even then, I couldn't get to the tenth floor properly, even zoomed out. So if anyone DID try to play like this, the tenth floor (and probably the ninth as well) would be entirely useless. I don't know if there's some sort of camera mod that can alter that.
It's also a nightmare to take pictures of, hence why you get two odd-looking pictures.
So then I tried building two towers on one lot. I started on a 2x2...

Well, it worked. I quite like the sort of courtyard feel the bottom has, but the entire thing is completely squished up. Which is kind of the nature of the challenge, but it's not very aesthetically pleasing. Though that might be because I used that awful grey brick for the balconies. Also, this is the only way I could lay out the lot without the towers touching.
I'm allowing balconies on even floors (so the second and the fourth).
So I tried the next size up, a 3x2. I chose the landscape one, instead of the one that goes back further. Though in hindsight, maybe I should have done that.

It worked out much better! There's room to move, and still enough space (ish) for a garden.
All of these were tested without foundation, which counts as a whole extra floor in-game. I figured foundation was just an extra set of stairs for sims to gather on and complain when they can't get through, so I didn't bother testing with foundation. Maybe I should.
So for best results, the challenge should be started on a 2x3, not a 2x2 and should use two towers instead of one enormous one.
The more you know! :D
I'm going to share the ruleset I'm playing by soon, too, in case anyone else wants to join me in this madness.
