Towering Legacy/Challenge: Rules
Apr. 25th, 2014 02:37 pmHere are the rules I've been playing with! There might be additions and alterations as I play test, but we'll see.
--------
Make/choose a founder. They can be any personality/aspiration/appearance that you want; it’s entirely up to you!
Move them into a 2x2 lot or a 2x3 lot - only use a 2x3 if you are playing more than 5 generations, as you'll need the room for the second tower.
Familyfunds them down to $10,600 – this is the starting amount on a 4x4 lot, which is a traditional legacy start. (Or least, that’s what my game told me it was when I moved a single CAS adult into a 4x4)
Now build an 8x8 box. Yep, we’re not going to achieve any architectural wonders here! The layout inside your beautiful box can be anything you like, it’s not like you can’t tweak it at all.
Have your founder go and find someone to marry/make babies with. If you want to use sims you’ve made, or other people have made, I’d recommend turning them into townies first.
BABIES – here’s where I decided to get interesting. Use a dice to determine how many kids you have a generation. Rolled a six? Have fun cramming them into your tower!
You MUST add another floor when a new generation is born. So make sure you’ve got some money set aside to plonk a box on top of the box you already have.
You are allowed to have balconies on every second floor. So, on the second and fourth floors. These can be two tiles wide, like so:

Store whatever you like on these, but remember, there isn’t much space!
Gardens – you can landscape your yard however you want. Shove your career rewards there, grow plants, whatever. But no beds or tents in the garden – that takes the fun out of trying to get a sim to the car pool from the fourth floor!
If your sims go to university, it’s up to you whether or not they live in a tower. But if you do decide to opt for a tower, floors can only be added each time a generation goes to uni.
For Generations 5+
The game doesn’t actually let you build above five floors, usually. There are ways around it, such as cheats:

The "AllowHighestLevel [level]" cheat will let you alter how high you can build, but I found I couldn't access the 10th floor, even when completely zoomed out. Perhaps a camera cheat would fix this, otherwise the 10th (and probably 9th) floors would be unusable.
If you decide against the one tower, begin a second tower with the birth of generation six, as seen on the red building above. If you opt for two towers, they must not open up to create one large tower. You can, however, connect their balconies.
I also recommend if you play beyond five generations to use a 2x3, otherwise you end up with rather cramped up towers:

Points
The scoring system is a rough guide, as I don't usually score my challenges.
That's all I've got for now! Let me know if you have any ideas for additional rules/points/whatever!

- If you're playing on a 2x2 lot, choose the location of your box on the lot carefully. I centred mine during my play-test – so if I build a second tower I might have some difficulties. It looks like there might *just* be enough room for my centred box, but it’d probably be easier if I’d had my box to one side.
Have your founder go and find someone to marry/make babies with. If you want to use sims you’ve made, or other people have made, I’d recommend turning them into townies first.
- Of course, you could just attempt to get your sim abducted, or aim for plantspawn, or whatever. Up to you, really.
BABIES – here’s where I decided to get interesting. Use a dice to determine how many kids you have a generation. Rolled a six? Have fun cramming them into your tower!
- I’m going to award 1 extra point for anyone who uses a D8 or D10 instead of a normal 6-sided die.
You MUST add another floor when a new generation is born. So make sure you’ve got some money set aside to plonk a box on top of the box you already have.
- You can only add a new floor when a new generation is born

- So for example, generation two are the first to go – they can only have the 8x8 ground floor. They won’t get a second floor until generation three arrive at college
