Washed Up: Midnight Sun Challenge - 1.3

Welcome back! I still have quite a few updates stockpiled on my laptop, and I'm trying to release them at a steady rate. This one's a little later than intended cause I fell ill. Sorry about that!

Last time, Cristina discovered she was pregnant, Derek discovered aliens exist, and Levi joined the family. Cristina and Derek then tied the knot, changing the entire family’s last name to Prescott by accident. Levi then aged into a toddler, and it became apparent he inherited his father’s mermaid genes. Also, Cristina fell pregnant again.

“Mum, it’s raining, do I really have to learn to roast fish tonight?”

“Yes. How else will you know how to cook breakfast? We can’t do it for you anymore.”




The rain had cleared up by the next day, although temperatures were still quite low, meaning Levi could at least learn the ways of outdoor living without being too wet.

Plus he has the Loves the Cold trait, so the temperatures were probably just fine with him.




He also went swimming with Derek.

I was very disappointed to find out child-mermaids do not have tails.




It looks like he might have fallen asleep roasting the lettuce, but overall, Levi’s getting to grips with this castaway lifestyle thing.




“Cristina! Cristina, quick! Pay attention to me!”

“Not now, Derek, I’m hungry.”




Derek then grew into elderhood. I knew it was coming up, and that he was older than Cristina, but I thought the age gap was a little smaller.

I’m sure it’s fine.

He instantly wished for a cane.




Also, it turns out elderly mermaids dehydrate quicker, and so Levi had to throw a bucket of water over his passed out dad.

Happy birthday, Derek, here's a rude awakening!




He may be silver-haired now, but Cristina likes him just the same.

I do wonder if he’ll be around long enough to raise that baby inside of Cristina’s bump.




Speaking of the bump, Cristina later went into labour in the bathroom.

You know, like a typical challenge sim.




I sent her outside so I could get a better shot when the baby did arrive.

And it’s another boy! This is Dwight. He has the Artistic and Friendly traits.




“Oh, little one. I love you very much.”

Derek is just as good with Dwight as he was with Levi. Maybe he’s just good with babies.




“If I had a boat like this, what would I find off the island?”

Who knows?




Cristina was going crazy being ‘stuck in the house’ – which apparently includes sitting on the beach – and so she went for a dive.

Turns out the treasure chests reset, and so the family gained some money, and some gems. The gems are being stashed away for tuition money for Levi & Dwight later on.




Back at the beach, and Levi’s decided he’s king of the island.

Which is cute – I do love this feature.






Dwight sparkled up, and also had his scales changed.

I didn’t want Levi and Dwight to have matching scales. They already look pretty much alike, other than their hair.




Cristina was able to get a chess set so she could teach Levi how to play.

 However, with his logic skills from the blocks as a toddler, it was more like he was teaching her to play.




Another day, and Levi is just making sure everyone got the message last time he announced his nobility.




A lot of my TS3 couples lose their affection after their kids are born, for some reason. But not Cristina and Derek, the spark has never gone out of this marriage.




…I have no idea what’s happening at the weather stone, but I don’t think I want to know.




Levi was only there to pick up the space rocks that were scattered over the area.

 I heard alien abductions are more likely if you have space rocks, and since I’ve never had an abduction resulting in a pregnancy before, I figured I’d try anything.




When he got back to the house, Levi automatically got out his noise maker.

Is it that time already?




Yep! We have our first teenager!

I still think he’s cute. He rolled the Unstable trait. I’ve never had it before.




His birthday wish was for a telescope, which he got.

With the amount of stars you’d be able to see from the island, a telescope is a good move.




Levi then saw a meteorite fall, and headed over to where it landed. I know I said I wanted space rocks but this is crazy.

“I’m keeping it.”

Well of course!




He got back to the shack just in time for Dwight waking up. They’re quite cute together.




Cristina was getting bored now that her babies were growing, and so it was time to take up another hobby.

Constructing an easel was simple, but capturing the night sky? Not so much.




Levi’s first dive on his own! Man, I love mermaids.

Here’s hoping he doesn’t find that squid in there that Cristina found.




That night, Dwight stood up next to Levi’s boulder and erupted into sparkles.

It goes by so quickly, doesn’t it?




He looks almost the same as Levi.

There is something different between them, other than the hair colour, I just haven’t worked out what it is yet. He gained the Coward trait.




…I’m not sure that’s what the island actually looks like, Cristina.






So, um, I learnt what the Unstable trait was like. With the agitation, and the “deep breathing or go to the hospital”, and the disappearing of Levi’s slob trait.

It took me completely by surprise, and made playing very uncomfortable. I don’t want to go into too much detail (there’s a tumblr post about it here, if you’re interested) but I really struggled to get used to that trait.

I don’t think I’d give it to a sim on purpose.




A trait I do find quite fun, however, is Dwight’s Coward trait.

He’s scared of the dark, and most of the useful stuff is outside, resulting in lots of this.




Cristina, meanwhile, finds no trouble relaxing in the dark.

Not sure how much of a sun tan she’ll get, though.




“Ugh, why are we up so early?”

“Because I’m taking my gorgeous boys out sailing!”

“Muuuum.”




Derek, who had been asleep when they’d left shore, swam up to the boat to join the family fun.

A family sailing trip was really cute, and plus they got more fish for dinner!




Back at the island, and Cristina starts telling ghost stories.

It’s the middle of the day, but it’ll probably still freak Dwight out.




Luckily, Cristina’s on hand to convince him everything is fine.




It didn’t stop him checking under the bed later, though.

Although, I think he’s looking for a doctor or a nurse, rather than a monster. Strange child.




With the time to take over from Cristina coming up fast, Levi has to learn more skills to survive on the island – such as gardening.

It’s a shame kids can’t pick it up, as starting them early is usually a better idea.
