Some Sort of Legacy: Chapter Four
Aug. 29th, 2019 06:59 pm
I'm quite far ahead in game, but also pretty busy with work and life and such, so updates have lagged behind a little bit.
Last time, we saw generation two heir Pickle finding love with Ester Townie. The family also picked up and moved to Magic Town, where many duels were had and spells were cast in order to collect the ingredients Pickle needed to get married. Eventually, Pickle was able to cast the Big Question and marry Ester, and the couple had a little baby girl named Peanut. Peanut grew up, and at the end of the update had successfully manifested a lot of cake.
Let's see what happened next! :)

All of the gnomes the family had accumulated were destroyed during the cake eating party they threw at the end of the last update, and they're quite handy to have around. The Enchantment spell doesn't use any difficult-to-obtain ingredients, and you get multiple uses when you make it, so it's a good spell for adding to the spell count.
So Tuxedo often gets to lose himself in gnome making. I'm not sure why, but I always have him do it. No one else.

Of course, you don't always have to enchant gnomes.
How many flamingo dancers is too many flamingo dancers??

The family also hired a normal maid in the aftermath of the cake party. Bonehilda just wasn't cutting it, she just doesn't seem to clean everything before going back to her cupboard.
Unfortunately, the maid spotted Bonehilda and ran for it, which was pretty amusing.

Enough magic for five minutes, it's time for another family holiday!
I've decided they'll take one every generation, just so I don't end up ageing the kids up too soon.

What a beautiful, totally average family. In matching swimwear.
I know I could buy them new swimwear, but you know what? I oddly like them matching.

Marky Sharky is the best mascot!
Nevermind the fact Peanut is paying him zero attention.

Tuxedo has no idea who those guys are, but will still happily hot tub with them.
And they're all wearing the same speedos. I love the Sims 1.

Peanut's idea of a good time is relaxing, peace and quiet, and absolutely no company, apparently.
I love and support this.

Marky Sharky cares not for personal space!
...still my favourite. <3

There's definitely something about Pickle's helmet and a lack of other clothing that I love.
What an oddball, and an oddball I enjoy having around.

I'd forgotten about treasure hunting! They autonomously rented a metal detector, which was cool!
And found little more than one old boot, which the family will obviously treasure forever.

I'm having a great time - and a lot of nostalgia - revisiting these old activities.

You can tell the Jones family has been here...

Grandfather-Granddaughter fishing time - very cute!

And in the blink of an eye, the trip is over and the family is home. The piles and piles of dirty dishes were getting on my nerves and upsetting the family - apparently the maid couldn't clean up fast enough.
Anyway, they brought home a wooden squirrel, and an old boot.

And so life goes back to normal.
And by normal, I mean magic backfiring of course.

The donkey head and the tuxedo really crack me up.

More gnomes = more fun, right?
I've been experimenting to see how many you can enchant at once. I'm sure it's more than three.

Time for a birthday!
I have pretty exciting plans for Peanut's generation!

She somehow looks different yet exactly the same as her childhood self.
Although she is wearing less clothes now.

Peanut then spends the afternoon gaining skills - and abs.
Why's that, you ask?

Because we're off to Studio Town!
I'm not sure how far I'll go with the Superstar thing. My all time record is 3.5 stars, which isn't great. I usually get stuck in a loop there of losing and then regaining stars.
But I am enjoying exploring different aspects of the Sims 1 over this challenge, so I at least had to give Studio Town a visit, and give fame a try.

The nostalgia hit me the minute it loaded up the neighbourhood :)

The only appropriate reaction to Marilyn, really.
I love that she's in this game!

Peanut's already at half a star, so we're on our way!

The glamour of Studio Town did not follow her home, it's business as usual for Peanut.
I need to cast more spells and gain more rewards - I would like a beanstalk at some point!

Peanut cast a charm that was meant to summon a maid to tidy up the place - only it backfired and we got the evil version.
She broke everything and left.

More spells, more magical treats please! Another ability crystal would be cool, I quite like the pink teleporting one.
So Peanut summons a clone!

The clone caught fire shortly after.
There is a fire alarm on the outside of the house due to all the backfiring enchantments, but even so.

It must be pretty alarming for Peanut and her family to watch...

Enough magic for a bit, let's go pursue fame!
And after a few hours dancing around in swimwear with a sims box, Peanut is a one star celebrity!

Apparently one star = limo!
It's here to carry her to her next destination, I'd quite like to get another half a star done while she's still in a reasonably good mood.

One and a half stars! Things are going well!

Back at the home lot, I discover our treat for all those spells Peanut case - this useless tree root.
I feel cheated.

Only in Studio Town could the traffic be this bad!
Today Peanut's shooting a cpmmercial and aiming for two stars.

She gains her second star fairly easily.
It gets a bit harder from here on out. Rather than just performing the same thing over and over, from here on out you have options for different ways to approach each task. You have to find the pattern the director is looking for in order to progress. It's a little frustrating but I actually like it a lot.

That guy has the best limo!

I have Peanut cast a love spell on him, mainly to help her progress through Studio Town. She needs a lot of influential friends. Will she marry this guy? I have no idea. His name is Kirk Somebody, I believe.
Also you'd think the paparazzi would care a little bit that she's casting spells. Tabloids would eat that up - "Studio Town Starlet is Secretly Witch!!"

Thanks, I guess?
This was the part where you had to work out the exact pattern of animations he was looking for. I had to get it right 4 times before her star rating went up, according to my notes.
Peanut is now at 2.5 stars.

2.5 stars apparently means an obsessed fan.
So obsessed he would apparently be okay with being hit by her limo.

Back at the house, everything is completely normal.

Peanut invites Kirk over to meet her family, and to keep their friendship pretty high.
Bonehilda has no concept of personal space, apparently.

Kirk didn't stay long. I can't imagine why.
At least Tuxedo waited until he'd left to pass out on the floor - which is also pretty normal, to be honest.

Another day, another trip to Studio Town.
You have to go fairly regularly, or her star rating starts to drop.

Oh good, the obsessive fan's on the set. I bet the director is loving that!
Peanut's shooting an inheritance scene for a soap opera this time. Again, it only took 4 attempts to get her rating to go up to three stars. This all seems to be going so well, completely unlike every attempt I've done in the past.

She heads home a three star celebrity, and gets to work on the skills she'll need to keep going.
But more of that next time! Who knows, maybe I'll make it all the way to five stars this time...
See you soon!!
