Some Sort of Legacy: Chapter 8
Feb. 2nd, 2020 12:04 pm
Hello again!
Last time, we discovered it might be a little difficult for Blue & Sheldon to have kids, so had to come up with a new strategy. So Peanut & Hugh had another little one to take over heirship, while Blue became a spare. They had a little boy named Boots. Ester passed away in a ladderless pool in order to make room for more family members and generations. The family also adopted a pink poodle named Amy, and a purple dragon named Torch.

We rejoin the family to find the dragon fast asleep.
Here's something I didn't know until I was playing through this: dragons eat flowers. So I ended up having to landscape the garden in order to feed the dragon. I never knew this playing Makin' Magic back in the day, so it's no wonder my old dragons used to get upset and start fires.

Elsewhere in the garden, Boots is giving little Amy all of his attention.
His best friend is probably the dog.

Something else I discovered playing this: the dog and the dragon can play tag together! It was really amusing watching them round around the yard together.

I'm serious, Boots spends all of his time with his dog.

Later that day, Boots remembers he's magical and decides to cast a spell...

On his dog, of course. That's a cursed image if I ever saw one.

And now the puppy is human!
Amy Jones, former poodle, is a Scorpio, with a personality of 8/7/7/8/0

"So you're human now...that's pretty interesting..."

Boots then successfully casts Lovestruck, and Amy falls deeply in love with him.
Yeah, it's a bit weird, but I couldn't let the challenge end without using that spell, could I? :)

Unfortunately, the household is full again, and I need a slot for the gen 5 baby.
So Sheldon gets a swim. The only sim who likes him is Blue, that's how I reached this decision. I still feel really bad about it, though.
I don't like killing sims!

In other news, Wally O'Wisp still hasn't despawned. I don't think he's doing much cleaning anymore, but he's still hanging around.
I guess magical glitches are all part of the fun!

"I'm sorry, have we met? I'm Peanut, former Studio Town star."
"I'm Amy...I was the dog?"
"What do you mean you were the dog?"

Boots may have lost a dog and gained a wife, but he still has a pet to take care of - I think Torch quite likes him!

Sorry Sheldon :(
Are the headstones randomly generated, does anyone know? Eloisa and Sheldon got massive headstones, while Ester got a tiny one, and I wonder why that is.

Dragon Fact I Didn't Know #3: Dragons will chase raccoons!
I don't know if they're playing tag, or if Torch is just chasing the little guy off the lot, but it was pretty neat all the same.

While the dragon defends the perimeter, Amy and Boots are expanding the family in the kitchen.
Please welcome their son, Ben, to the family! He's the family's last heir! And a ghost just walked right through his cot, let's hope that's not an omen of some kind.
My boyfriend picked Ben's named. He's the only sim born into the challenge to get an ordinary name.

It's been awhile since the Beauty or Beast charm backfired and gave us donkey heads but look - Wally O'Wisp gets one too!
That amuses me far more than it should!

And we have our first dragon fire! Honestly kind of surprised it took this long.
I installed fire alarms in every room of the house, and there was already one on the exterior, in preparation for this. Luckily the fireman put it out quickly and there wasn't any real harm done.

Torch is still a very much loved member of the family.

We interrupt this update to bring you Classy Hot Tubbing.
Tuxedo knows how to live.

Later on, Torch starts another fire.
Okay, this one is a bit more of a problem. Amy's stuck in there.

Downstairs, the family are blocking the path for the fireman. Pretty sure that's Boots in the way.
And so here comes the reaper. Pretty sure the blocked path won't stop Death.

The path cleared to allow a plea. It didn't change a thing.

Goodbye Amy
:(

Despite everything, the family kept the dragon.
It was only Torch's second fire, afterall, even if it was particularly devastating this time.

Back in the house, a new Wally O'Wisp is conjured up.
I probably did it to help with the clean up operation after the fire, especially as Donkey Head Wally O'Wisp doesn't do all that much.
Probably should've just knocked for Bonehilda.

I'd totally forgotten about Ben with everything else that was going on. We're lucky he's made it this far.

Ben Jones, the final heir of the legacy, is a Capricorn with a personality of 8/0/3/10/0

That night, a new ability crystal turned up. One that allows magic sims to extinguish fires.
Man, that would've been useful a few days ago. Bad timing or what!

Torch please, not the trophies!
The fireman arrived and put it out before any damage was done this time. It is probably better if Torch starts his fires in the yard rather than in the house. Keep your fires outside, little dragon.

I think at this point I must have been trying to up the spell count, because I can't imagine why I would've wanted a third Wally O'Wisp hanging about.
It backfired anyway, this is Molly, Wally's evil counterpart. She destroyed all the gnomes and left. We've lost our extensive gnome collection.

Aaaand the parrot's dead.
Things are going so well this update.

I feel like Ben is pretty much spending his childhood sobbing and being spooked. Sometimes with a donkey head, apparently.

The following day, Tuxedo begins to work on rebuilding our gnome collection.
It's what he does best.

Both of the Wally O'Wisps have donkey heads now, and neither of them will despawn. Which is weird, because Molly did.
They also sometimes teleport to this far corner of the lot, together. It looks like they're judging the family from there.

Torch, again?!

I had someone magically extinguish it this time. I've never seen it before! The little clouds are cute!

This fire wasn't Torch's fault, this one is just the Enchantment spell backfiring.
How many fires have we had in this update anyway?

Nothing more magical than gnomes and dragons!
I don't think they can interact, which is a shame.

Ben escapes the madness for five minutes to go pick up a wand.
I'd pretty much forgotten about it, which is weird. He needs it.

Ben heads home and makes magic for the first time - the Beauty or Beast Jr charm!
I don't think I've cast it since Pickles was a kid.

The dragon fires are getting more and more frequent, and I have no idea what to do about it.
I'm pretty sure Torch has everything he needs, I don't know what more I can do.

This is probably the most magical looking screenshot of the entire challenge!

The skeleton is skin is probably one of my all time favourites <3

A new beanstalk has appeared!
I was hoping for one, but not expecting it - fingers crossed it grows tall enough for climbing!

How the heck do you set a hot tub on fire?
It's literally just a tub of water!

No better place to talk through puppets than next to a magical rain cloud!

He's cute when he's sleeping, but man is this pet dangerous. I've persevered because I obviously expected some fires, but at this point it's daily.

I'm not even sure what's burning here, but this was apparently the last straw. The family released the dragon after this.
And that's where I'm going to end this update - see you next time, when we'll see how high the beanstalk grows!
