Last time, Jo and Mackenzie began the year with some surprise kittens! However, caring for four cats became too much for the couple, and the little ones found new homes with other families in the save. Both Jo and Mackenzie retired last season, so they decided to head out to Sulani for some much needed relaxation and alone time. Whilst there, the couple unexpectedly got engaged and tied the knot, with no guests present other than their cats. Despite Jo’s history of being a party animal, this just felt right for the couple. They did celebrate their nuptials upon returning to the city, with plenty of their friends present. Jo unfortunately passed away of old age on the final day of spring.

When I joined Mackenzie at the beginning of the summer, she was no longer sad about Jo's death, but she still seemed kind of melancholy.

So I sent her out to Windenburg to try and make some friends, but she just seemed more into having a pastry.
I'm going to be honest with you, I didn't really know what to do with Mackenzie this season. I knew her days were numbered, so there didn't seem to be much point to starting anything new, and Mackenzie seemed mostly happy just to potter about for the week.

There was a lot of 'just passing the time'. Mackenzie tried fishing for the first time, but didn't really have any strong feelings about it.

She also picked up the guitar again for the first time in a few seasons, much to the displeasure of her neighbours.
Lilith Vatore knocked on the door and complained about the door a few times to complain about the noise. Not that Mackenzie cared.

Mackenzie did, however, become good friends with Candy Behr, Lilith's wife. They hadn't had an opportunity to get to know one another when they were younger because Candy and Jo were enemies, so this was kind of interesting to see.

Of course, Mackenzie still spent plenty of time with the cats, Shadow and Rosie.

It was literally the most calm and quiet week I've ever played, I reckon.
And Mackenzie having French toast for breakfast here totally inspired me to make it for breakfast irl.

Also, typically, the summer in the Spice Market was a pretty rainy one - perfect for drinking tea with your cats.

Mackenzie may tell you she doesn't have a favourite cat, but she absolutely does - it's Rosie.

Norah also popped by for a catch up. She was Jo's best friend, so it made sense for her to randomly turn up from time to time.

Eventually the time came, and Mackenzie McMullen passed away on the Friday. She lived way longer than I thought she would.

I did wonder what would happen to the cats, because obviously they couldn't live alone. The game transferred them (and me) to Akira's apartment, so at least they're with a sim I know, and not just lost to the void.

Goodbye Mackenzie <3

It's really difficult letting them go, even when you know it's coming :( and I don't think this will be the last death this season unfortunately.
Because Jo and Mackenzie never had children, there's no one to carry on their household, so this is the last McMullen update - the rotation will begin next season with the Titans. Speaking of which, we'll see them in the next update - which will hopefully be more cheerful than this one!
See you soon!
