Anyway, to mark the occasion, I did plan to have some sort of photoshoot. But I ran out of ideas, and then ran out of time. However, I have five drabbles stored from the past few months or so, and thought it might be awesome to share those instead. I've never shared any of my drabbles before, so we shall see how this goes.
"You're trying to kill me, aren't you?"
Characters: Maddie and John
Description: John offers to go jogging with Maddie
Notes: I consider this to be canon, but it won't be appearing in a chapter or anything. No spoilers, really.
Word Count: 305
Both of their shadows moved slowly over the sand as the sun rose over the horizon, way out at sea. The waves moved quietly into the bay, with a gentle sound as they lapped the shoreline. All was calm as Madeline Wrongway ran down the promenade, dressed in her training gear.
John ran behind her, pale cheeks tinged pink from the exercise. Unlike Maddie, John was more of a sprinter than a jogger, “Are you going to slow down now, or will you wait until I pass out first?”
“If you can't keep up, you shouldn't offer to jog with me,” Maddie told him, with a laugh. A light sweat had broken out on her forehead, but other than that, she wasn't even slightly tired. John let out a breath sharply, and pushed himself to catch up with her.
“You're trying to kill me, aren't you?” He asked, as he fell into place by her side.
Maddie raised her eyebrows, “In a town this small? I would never get away with it. Besides, I like your company too much to kill you off.”
John gazed at her a little stunned, “Thanks, I guess?”
“Yes, that was a compliment,” Maddie told him, indignantly. Up ahead, she spied the end of promenade, “come on, I'll race you to the end.”
With a grin, John used the last of his energy to race down the promenade, a stunned Maddie trying to keep up behind him. The adrenaline pushed him forwards, and he zoomed ahead, free from being caught. Maddie slowed down, breathing heavily, and walked the rest of the promenade.
When she reached John, she coughed, “You could have warned me that you enjoy sprinting.”
John smirked, “If you can't keep up, you shouldn't offer to sprint with me.”
His Only Regret
Characters: Mark Wrongway,
Description: A glimpse at the man he is now
Notes: Canon. It's not going to be in a chapter, but this is where Mark is now that he's not with Lavender. No spoilers.
Word Count: 289
Mark slammed the door in the face of his band mate, and screwed the paper he'd been handed into a ball, throwing it at the wall opposite him. With a sigh, Mark sat down on the edge of his bed, and picked up the photo frame that sat by his bedside. It didn't matter what hotel Mark was staying in, a photo of Lavender and the kids was always by his side.
A hint of a smile crossed Mark's face as he gazed upon the grins of his children. All of them were grown now, and he barely knew them. With a sense of guilt and disappointment in himself, Mark put the photo back where it belonged, and grabbed the ball of paper he had thrown aside.
The set list for his band, Citywatch, and their latest performance, stared up from the page in the careful print that belonged to the guitarist, Michelle. The first song on the list was the one he had sung at the reception of his wedding to Lavender. His days of being married to Lavender were over, that had been his decision.
A decision to regret.
Mark hunted through a drawer until he found the lyrics to the song, and sat there humming to tune to himself, remembering how he had left out that final verse at the wedding, because it had seemed inappropriate. It was perfect for how he felt now.
“If I could turn back time,
I'll go wherever you will go,
If I could make you mine,
I'll go wherever you will go...”
Silence returned to the room and Mark finished singing the verse he had neglected at the wedding.
He was the man who traded his family for fortune.
“Boys Will Be Boys”
Characters: Maddie, John, Romeo, Oscar & Sierra Wrongway
Description: Maddie and John's afternoon is interrupted by their daughter's attempts to keep up with her older brothers.
Notes: Canon, but won't be part of a chapter. I guess it's also a spoiler, as I haven't introduced the kids into the legacy, yet.
Word Count: 279
Maddie and John were enjoying some time to themselves, curled up on the sofa with a movie. Romeo and Oscar had offered to take their little sister out for a bit, just to give their parents a break. Everything was peaceful, until the front door burst open.
With an alarmed look, Maddie got up from the sofa, as her daughter limped in, clutching her arm. The cut on Sierra's arm was only small but was bleeding over her, staining her trousers. John winced, knowing his wife had only bought the jeans the day before.
“Mum! Mum! I'm sorry I ruined my new jeans!” Sierra cried, worriedly looking at the blood on her trousers, “Please don't yell at me!”
Maddie stared at her daughter, “Nevermind the jeans, what have you done?”
Romeo and Oscar entered the house, one after the other. The pair of them looked tired, and worried. Sierra was still fussing over her jeans, convinced she was going to get told off, while her father frowned at the two boys.
“What happened to your little sister?”
“I was messing about, climbing a tree,” Romeo began, with a sigh. He felt responsible for his sister getting hurt, “and Sierra thought it would be fun to try and join me up the tree...except she slipped out, caught her arm on the tree as she fell, and landed a little funny. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been climbing the tree in the first place.”
“It was an accident,” Oscar clarified, “They were just messing about.”
Maddie rolled her eyes, “Boys will boys, I guess. Come on, Sierra, let's get you cleaned up.”
Coming Home for Christmas
Characters: Esme, Will & David Shahan
Description: David is late home for Christmas
Notes: Will is one of Lavender, Rose and Forrest's cousins, for anyone who doesn't remember. Esme is his wife – an import, courtesy of esmeiolanthe – and David is their son. They're quite distanced from the main line right now, so they don't get any proper attention in the chapters. This drabble is canon.
Word Count: 193
Esme wandered by the front windows of the house, eyes locked on the road outside. It was silent, which wasn't unusual for the mid-morning, but unnerving, especially as she was expecting her son to return at any moment.
Her husband, Will, was standing behind her, arms crossed, “You know, a watched pot never boils.”
“Where is he?” Esme asked, frustrated, “Only our son could be three days late for Christmas!”
Will rolled his eyes, “His flight was delayed from Twikkii Island, I'm sure he didn't mean to be late for us, Esme. Besides, he's never been that good at time keeping.”
Esme sighed, and turned her back on the road, facing her husband, “I just wish he could've been here in time for Christmas. It's been really quiet ever since he moved out.”
“I know,” Will walked over to Esme, and pulled her close, “But he needs to discover the world for himself.”
Over her shoulder, he saw a taxi pull up, and start unloading. He smiled, and let Esme go, turning her to face the windows. She grinned when she saw their son getting out.
Meddling
Characters: Ralph and Ariel Wrongway
Description: The pair have an argument over Ralph's descendants
Notes: Canon. I don't know if it'll appear in a chapter yet or not, but this is canon. And also a little bit of a spoiler, I think.
Word Count: 148
“She's my great-great-granddaughter, Ariel!” Ralph spat, with fury. His argument with his assistant was continuing to grow more heated, and there seemed no end in sight.
“Like it matters to you!” Ariel snapped back, “Besides, it's not like I did anything major to her, I just made her a mute. Probably an improvement.”
Ralph seized her by the shoulders, “Why do you think it's okay to mess with my own heirs? I may not have a legacy like the one my brother created for himself, but Fiona is one of my line!”
“Stop being a baby,” Ariel said, firmly, “Because I can't undo it. There's nothing we can do for her.”
Ralph let Ariel go, and stormed off, furious. Over his shoulder, he called out, “Stay away from the family. Leave the Wrongways to me next time. ALL of the Wrongways.”
And that's it! Thank you to everyone who has followed the Wrongways over the past two years, it's been fun so far. And thanks to everyone who has lent me their sims for my 'verse, too - Heather, for Betria Hollinter, Esme for her simself, and Ani-Mei for Solan (who should be in the next chapter).
Hopefully you'll enjoy what I have coming up in the legacy.
EDIT: If the formatting looks a little odd, I'm sorry. I've been arguing with LJ about it for half an hour now
