BaCC: Uni Taxes & Poor Sims

beanstalk_simsSo, until recently, taxes in my BaCC for university were at $1,000 per household. Tough, and unfair, but I seriously want a uni. Plus it was a tidy way for me to keep track of everything - nice round numbers because I am lazy when it comes to maths. Then again, if I used a spreadsheet, it would do the adding for me...
Anyway, the $1,000 weekly tax wasn't any trouble for my richer families - the Robinsons have over $160,000, so not only did they pay their tax, they also paid a large chunk towards private funding. Same with the Loreen family. But then came the issue of my dirt-poor family in Rubix - the Thayers.
$40 in the bank, and no way to make money for the tax next week. It doesn't help that the Thayers have next to no money and are still rolling wants for babies. There isn't any room for the kids to sleep and the whole house is in chaos - definitely one of my favourites in the rotation!!
I've been searching my brain for a solution to their tax issues with no result. But so far my main idea is to let families who have less than $2,000 go tax-free. Afterall, I'm taking fairly huge amounts of money from those who can afford it and then some, so I could let the Thayers slide.
I would like a second opinion, though, if anyone has any thoughts. :)
