Prompt: Aging Gracefully

Hex waited in the kitchen, pacing the room with restlessness. A birthday cake, missing only one slice, was left on the counter, candles blown out hours ago. What was taking her so long?

With a sigh, Hex sat down at the dinner table, and helped himself to another slice of cake. He didn't feel much like celebrating, but he was going to try. He was mindlessly stabbing at the slice with a fork when the door opened, and she entered. His green eyes flicked up towards her.

Her brown hair had paled to white, but it still framed her face in the same way. Her features seemed softened, her face lined, but the smile was still the same. She looked skinnier than before, in her new sweater and jeans, but Hex didn't care about that.

“Lavender,” He murmured, getting up from the table.She blushed a little bit.

“I know...” She told him, as he crossed the room to her side, “I know you wanted to grow old by my side...but this is how things are going to be from now on,”

“I don't mind that at all,” Hex replied, with a smile. He pulled her close, “You're as beautiful to me as you ever were,”

“I get closer to death with each passing day, Hex,” Lavender whispered, “One day, I'm not going to be here,”

Hex hugged her tighter, “Then we make the most of the time we have.”
