“There's no way I can bring people through the mirror with me, Romeo!” Cyrus exclaimed, a worried expression on his face, “Believe me, I've tried...”
Cyrus's mind wandered to Gvaudoin, sitting at her desk in the office, waiting for him. Cyrus really should get a move on. There may not be time in the Afterlife, but that's not an excuse for being late.
Romeo watched his friend with dark eyes. The pair of them were in the attic of the Supernatural Court, by the mirror that connected Cyrus to the other world. Romeo hated to admit it, but he was slightly jealous of Cyrus's powers. If Romeo had that power, he would use it for good.
“Well, go and look for them, anyway,” Romeo begged, “Please, I need to know they're okay. I need you to bring them home,”
“It's not possible!” Cyrus said again, tiredly, “I can't bring people through the mirror. And I've never seen anyone of interest in the Afterlife,”
Except Gvaudoin, he added, mentally. Romeo gave a frustrated hiss and kicked at a nearby cardboard box. Cyrus tucked his hands in his pockets, a pitying look on his face. Romeo couldn't stand his sympathy, even more than being completely useless. He hated the way people were looking at him, recently.
“Just go and look,” Romeo asked again, “It would mean the world to me,”
Cyrus rolled his eyes, “There's no point, Romeo. They're gone. Live with it.”
A burst of anger ran through Romeo, and he grabbed the mirror, slamming it to the floor, expecting it to break. Cyrus watched, nervously – it was his one connection to Gvaudoin, Hex had made sure there were no other mirrors in the house.
“Damn it, Romeo!” Cyrus shouted, picking the mirror up, “I know you can't have what you want, but seriously? This is childish!”
And with that, Cyrus pushed his way through the glass, disappearing from the mortal world into the Afterlife, leaving Romeo furious and alone in the attic.
Without even really thinking about it, Romeo picked up something heavy from one of the boxes – an old trophy or a souvenir from Takemizu, anything – and threw it into the mirror. The mirror cracked and fell in shards, rendering it useless to Cyrus.
It wasn't until after he'd calmed down that Romeo wondered how his friend was going to get back.
